Things to do in Wicker Park

Wicker Park is one of the youngest neighborhoods in Chicago. Not in the chronological sense, but with the population as the median age of residents is around 31. Because of this, the community has a really good food scene and nightlife. This is also where the majority of the show Shameless was filmed. The Historic District, which has been around since the 19th century, is a Chicago landmark. Of course, the town’s namesake attraction, Wicker Park is one of Chicago’s foremost urban parks. Wicker Park doesn’t have any major attractions, but hours can be spent along the main street.

Flat Iron Building

It’s an art fair every day at Wicker Park’s iconic Flat Iron Building, with artists and musicians frequenting it. This building, along with the tower across the street, are original art deco buildings from the 20s –both turning 100 soon. The building is open to the public as an art museum and holds big events at the beginning of every month. It’s also Chicago’s diverse architecture at its finest.

606 Trail

The best trails are those that used to be rail lines, and the 606 is just that, which runs 2.7 miles through Wicker Park, starting on Bloomingdale Avenue. Hikers and runners don’t just pass through trees and open space around them but painted murals –making it not just a nature-oriented experience but an artistic one.

Escape Artistry’s Railcar

Inside the Flat Iron Building is an artistic escape room experience. This unique escape room is designed like an end-times railcar made from miscellaneous materials. It’s a great 3D art piece in addition to being a fully interactive escape room. It would take about an hour to solve and costs about $28 per person. Visitors absolutely appreciate the work and effort involved in making such an experience possible.

Wicker Park

No visit to Wicker Park would be complete without a stop at the park itself. This 4.75-acre park is the largest in the community and offers more amenities. The sprinkler fountains are active in the summer, baseball, basketball, athletic fields, and gardens. Movie showings, concerts, and art fairs are also held here as community events.
