Things to do in South Houston

South Houston is a nice, almost suburban escape from the hustle and bustle of Houston itself. It’s also a bit of a college town with San Jacinto College in the area. Despite being in a somewhat coastal region of Texas, there is no water in South Houston, making it one of the driest towns in Harris County. Several people travel through South Houston to make their way around the many attractions of Harris County –some of which are close to or in the area.

Houston Botanic Garden

South Houston isn’t far at all from the Houston Botanic Garden –it’s just a straight shot down Galveston road. This year will be the garden’s 20th anniversary. Gardens and collections here include the Coastal Prairie, Stormfall Wetlands, Woodland Glade, Pine Grove, and Culinary Garden. Visitors can spend hours on the trails of the 132-acre conservatory.
