Things to do in North Riverside

North Riverside is one of the smallest communities in the Chicagoland area, with a population of just under 7,000. It’s a shopping destination more so than anything. Its close location to Brookfield and the zoo is a huge plus for residents and visitors. North Riverside is also the birthplace of Bud Light’s spokesdog, Spuds MacKenzie. Other claims to fame in the area are the Fire Department privatization and their local mall.

Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield Zoo is a historic one as it was the first in the country to house pandas and uses trenches and moats for its exhibits rather than cages. They also built the first dolphin exhibit in the 60s as well. African, Asian, and South American animals all have exhibits here. Their rainforest simulation area is also really impressive. You can spend a day here taking in the 450 species of animals from around the world.

North Riverside Mall

North Riverside’s foremost shopping center is its namesake mall. Some of the main stores include JCPenny, Round 1, H&M, Footlocker, Best Buy, Hobby Lobby, and so much more. Round 1 is a great arcade and bowling alley that you can spend hours at. There is also an Olive Garden and Red Robin there too.

Urban Air Trampoline And Adventure Park

Urban Air is an indoor amusement park where everything that involves altitude is an attraction –like trampolines, climbing walls, and high ropes courses. Their rides include bumper cars, go-karts, and even small ziplines. Much like Chuck E Cheese, the main dish here is pizza which pairs amazingly with the arcade. They also offer membership for frequent visitors.
