Things to do in Archer Heights

Archer Heights is one of those humble Chicago community areas in the southwest suburbs. This community has past roots as a Native American trail. Archer Heights’ close location to the Stevenson Expressway enables easy driving around the rest of the city. Archer Heights has a strong presence of European immigrant generations, notably Polish. There aren’t any major attractions as Archer Heights is a residential and manufacturing community, but you can kill some time if you are just passing through.

Greater Chicago Food Depository

Chicago’s official food bank and one of the major philanthropic organizations in the area make their headquarters in Archer Heights. The Greater Food Depository is open to donations and volunteer work. Work is available in their warehouse, where there is food to be packaged and sent out along with helping with community events. The food depository is responsible for making sure pantries, and soup kitchens get the supplies they need.

Archer Park

Most community recreation of Archer Heights is at their parks. They’re no Grant Park, but they’re humble little grasslands on city blocks. Archer (William Beatty) Park is a great park in the summertime when the water play area is open. Meanwhile, they have a fitness center, tennis courts, baseball fields, and playground. Community events are also held here at times.

Walnut Park

The rest of the parks in Archer Heights are small rectangles of land that serve as a nice, green escape from the urban neighborhood. There is a small trial and playground in the middle of the park that can be fully explored in just 15 minutes. It’s close to the town’s residential area, so it’s always quiet and peaceful.
