Basement of the Dead
Opening Day: Sept. 13th
This family-owned haunted house is currently open and operational for the 2019 haunt season. According to the website, this particular haunted house is located in the building of a basement that is over 100 years old. This terrifying attraction includes more than just bone-chilling monsters created by their immersive actors. It also includes a 3D clown haunt known as Shattered 3D, as well as a DJ who plays music outside and has been known to duct tape the mouths of select patrons during the wait to get inside. For more information, visit the official Basement of the Dead website.

Statesville Haunted Prison
Opening Day: Oct. 3rd
This may be Illinois’ most notorious haunted house, inspired by the real-life Statesville Prison. Don’t worry, you won’t be going through a tour of the actual Statesville Prison but the performers are sure to convince you otherwise. Take a look at the official Statesville Haunted Prison website to explore the gruesome, inventive attractions they’ve used to scare patrons over the years.
Opening Day: Sept. 13th
13th Floor is one of the most iconic haunted houses in Illinois. It’s also one of the largest haunted houses in Illinois, making it a must-visit for any fan of the Halloween season. Each year, this haunted house rotates its creepy attractions for visitors, with this year bringing attractions such as The Other Side and Creature Feature. Check out the official 13th Floor website for more information on this year’s event.

The Legendary Dungeon of Doom
Opening Day: Sept. 27th
The Legendary Dungeon of Doom is, according to the official website, the only 60-minute, single walk-through haunted house in the Midwest. That’s right, when you enter the dungeon you’re in there for an entire hour. This haunt is home to a bevy of horrific characters, many of which can be viewed on the official website. That may all sound awesome on its own but there’s more. There is one section known as “Buried Alive” (which you can opt-out of if you have claustrophobia) and there are even special “Blackout” days in November.
During a Blackout experience, you wander through the same Dungeon of Doom but this time, you’re in complete darkness. Your only source of light is a single glow stick.
