Car Repairs After An Accident

Your car repair after an accident will depend on who is at fault and the insurance companies involved. One driver will be found at fault after the filing of a claim. Fault determines which insurance company will handle physical damages/injuries. After that, a car inspection will take place.

Not At Fault

If you are not at fault for the accident, the other driver’s insurance company handles covering the car damage. But, they may only pay up to the policy limits. Your underinsured and uninsured policy may have to pick up the rest of the bills. This happens if there is not enough coverage in the policy.

At Fault

If you are at fault, your insurance has to pay for the damages to the other vehicle and any injuries. You may also use your own collision or comprehensive coverage to pay for repairs to your own. Or, you can pay out of pocket to avoid filing a claim and increasing insurance rate premiums. Your insurance company will then hold a car inspection after they determine fault.

A car inspection takes place to look for damages after the filing of an insurance claim and determination of fault. Your car must go through inspection before repairs happen. For the inspection, the insurance company at fault will do one of two things. They will either send a technician out to you or send you to a repair shop.

Car Repair Estimates

The insurance adjuster and repair shop determine the repair costs. After that, the car will go in for repairs. If you are not at fault for the accident, the other driver’s insurance company will pay for a rental. They will do this for the time your car is in the repair shop.

You can pay for the car damages out of pocket and get a refund for the car repairs. However, you could instead choose to have the insurance company pay the auto repair shop themselves.
